Visiting our Church

Worship Service

Sunday morning Worship services begin at 10:30 AM.  Feel free to come at 9:30 AM and enjoy some coffee and pastries as we get to know each other.  Everyone is welcome at the Hershey Church of the Nazarene.  Whether you are simply seeking to know more about God or are looking for a new church home, you are welcome here.

Attire

People often ask:  What should I wear to church?   Don’t worry, when you arrive you will find people dressed in all kinds of attire.  There are those who like to dress up a bit to come to church, but there are also those who are comfortable in their everyday gear.  Come and be comfortable.  We are all about Worshipping God, not worrying about how we look!

Music

Please come into the sanctuary and make yourself at home.  Our services usually begin with a time of music in which people may stand or choose to sit.  Sometimes we sing more traditional hymns and sometimes we sing more contemporary songs.  If you know the songs, sing along, if not—don’t worry about it.  Just relax, enjoy the experience, and let the words and music speak to your heart!

Offering

During most services we will have a time of offering.  At that time, those who are regular attenders give their tithes and offerings as a part of their Worship to God and to help support the ministries of the church.  Visitors are welcome to participate but are certainly not expected to do so.

Sermon

The pastor will usually preach a sermon.  This is a teaching lesson where scripture is taken from verses in the Bible and learning how to apply them to our own lives.  If you have a Bible, you are welcome to bring it with you.  Many people use e-versions of Bibles on their phones or other electronic devices.  If you don’t have any of these, don’t worry!  Most scripture is displayed on a screen in the front of the church for you to follow along.  The pastor will often read the Scripture as well.

Prayer

There may be a time during the service when the pastor invites people to come down front to the altar for a special time of prayer.  This is not required but this is a good time to bring your prayers and petitions before the throne of God.  If you chose to come to an alter of prayer, other people may feel led by the Holy Spirit to join you and pray with you.  If you do not want someone to pray with you it is always your choice.  Nobody will be offended if you want to simply pray alone.

Communion

Some Sundays we will partake in Communion.  You don’t have to be a member of the church to take part, but the pastor will generally ask whether you are a follower of Jesus Christ.  This is a good time to reevaluate where you are in your spiritual walk.  Maybe you need to make a recommitment to the Lord and taking part in Communion may become this affirmation.  Simply listen to the instructions given by the pastor and, as a confessed follower of Christ, you are welcome to participate.
